We work in South Jersey. And we live here, too. So when we say that we care for the community, we’re actually caring for our friends, neighbors, relatives, and colleagues. We’re meeting people where they live and work with empowering programs like our mobile farmers market and pediatric mobile health services, free cancer screenings, and health education. It’s how we’re doing our part to make great health care available to everyone.
The Virtua Community Health Institute—providing care where it’s needed most.
The Virtua Community Health Institute is dedicated to eradicating health disparities in our community. We work together with our community partners to increase health care accessibility in the most vulnerable areas in South Jersey. Some of the innovative programs we offer include:
Mobile Farmers Market
Our Mobile Farmers Market delivers healthy produce year round to communities throughout Burlington and Camden counties. Four days a week, our 23-foot bus sells fresh fruits and vegetables at significantly reduced prices.
Our New Jersey Cancer Education and Early Detection (NJCEED) Program is for uninsured or underinsured members of our community who meet certain age and income requirements. NJCEED provides breast, cervical, prostate, and colorectal cancer screenings for those who qualify.
Our classes share information about disease prevention, childbirth preparation, breastfeeding and parenting, nutrition, fitness, and wellness. And, we offer support groups for people with a range of concerns.
Kids ages 5 and under who live in medically underserved areas can get the health services they need courtesy of our Pediatric Mobile Services Program. We offer dental and developmental screenings, lead poisoning education, flu shots, health education, and more.
To kick off the union of Virtua and Lourdes as one health system, employees have received a simple-but-special assignment: to share kindness in the community. See how we’re using small river rocks to spread messages of hope, encouragement, and friendship.
